Set up EvenMoreFish on your Minecraft server
Install EvenMoreFish from the Plugins tab, run fishing competitions, set up the fish shop and baits, and fix common config problems.
EvenMoreFish replaces the plain Minecraft fishing loop with a large fish catalogue, timed competitions, a fish shop, a journal and baits. It is a Paper plugin, and Purpur is built on Paper and runs Paper plugins, so it installs from the Plugins tab on either.
Checked against EvenMoreFish 2.5.2, which lists Paper 1.21 to 26.3 on its Modrinth page, October 2026.
What you need
- A Paper or Purpur server on Minecraft 1.21 or newer. The plugin's own page says Java 21 is required. Our panel picks the Java version from your Minecraft version, so there is nothing to set. Vanilla servers have no Plugins tab; switch software in JAR Manager first (see Change your Minecraft version or mod loader).
- An economy plugin if you want fish to pay out money. In the plugin's 2.5.2
config.yml, theeconomysection has avaultoption that is on by default and aplayerpointsoption that is off by default.
Install it
- Open the Plugins tab and pick the Modrinth button (the plugin is also on Hangar).
- Type EvenMoreFish into the search box and click Install on the result named EvenMoreFish.
- Restart from the Console tab. The plugin's docs ask for a full restart, so use Restart or Stop then Start, not a plugin reload.
- Type
pluginsin the Console. EvenMoreFish should appear in the list.
If the Plugins tab ever misses a build for your version, the same steps work with the jar from the plugin's Modrinth page: upload it to the plugins folder in the File Manager (see Install Minecraft plugins on Paper or Purpur).
First run
The plugin's docs name two folders under plugins/EvenMoreFish, and say each one always holds an example config. The plugin creates them the first time it starts. These are the ones you will edit:
plugins/EvenMoreFish/raritiesholds the rarity configs.plugins/EvenMoreFish/competitionsholds one.ymlfile per competition.
Edit these in the File Manager with the server stopped, then start it again.
Try it in the Console
emf admin list raritiesprints every rarity.emf admin fish Common Bluefish 4 <player>gives a player four Bluefish of the Common rarity.emf admin competition start <competitionId> [duration]starts a competition now, andemf admin competition endstops it.emf admin reloadreloads the plugin's files.
Players use /emf shop, /emf top, /emf journal and /emf gui.
Competitions
Each competition file sets an id, a type and a duration, which is measured in minutes. To run it on a schedule, add either times (a list such as 00:00 and 06:00) or days (day names with start times); if both are present, days wins. To switch a competition off, set disabled to true and reload, or rename its file to start with an underscore. Version 2.0 and newer have eight competition types, including most fish, largest fish and a random pick.
Permissions
emf.admin covers the admin commands. emf.shop, emf.top, emf.toggle, emf.journal and emf.gui cover the matching player commands. Opening the shop for another player needs emf.admin. If requires-fishing-permission is true in config.yml, players also need emf.use_rod. A permissions plugin is the usual way to hand these out.
Common problems
- No EvenMoreFish fish appear. In
config.yml, checkfishing.catch-only-in-competition. When it is true, fish are only given during a competition. - Shop prices look wrong. A fish sells for the
worth-multiplierset on its rarity multiplied by its length. - Something fails quietly. Set
debug: trueinconfig.yml, restart, and read the Console. A YAML mistake is the usual cause, and the Console log reports it.
Back up before large edits to the rarity files. If you rename a fish or rarity, update the same name in baits.yml too.
