Enable cave flying on ARK: Survival Evolved
Let flying creatures into caves on your ARK: Survival Evolved server with the -ForceAllowCaveFlyers launch option in the Startup tab.
Flying creatures are kept out of ARK's caves by default on the official maps. If you would rather let flyers into the caves on your ARK: Survival Evolved server, there is a launch option for it. It goes in one field on the Startup tab, and you do not edit any ini file.
Checked against ARK: Survival Evolved 361.8, October 2026.
What the option does
ARK's wiki describes -ForceAllowCaveFlyers as forcing flyer creatures to be allowed into caves, and adds that flyers can go into caves by default on custom maps. So the option matters mainly on the official maps. The wiki lists it under command-line options, not as an ini setting.
Turn it on
- Open your server and go to the Startup tab.
- In Additional Arguments, type
-ForceAllowCaveFlyers. If something is already there, add a space before it and keep the rest, for example-NoTransferFromFiltering -ForceAllowCaveFlyers. - Press Save.
- Press Restart now in the alert. The server reads launch arguments only when it starts.
The field takes up to 1,024 characters.
Test it
- Join the server and take a tamed flyer to a cave entrance.
- Fly in. If you can ride in, the option is working.
Turn it off
Delete -ForceAllowCaveFlyers from Additional Arguments, press Save and restart.
Tell your players before you change this, since it changes how they can move through caves.
Do not confuse it with flyer carry
The Server Settings tab has a separate switch, Flyers can carry wild dinos (PvE) (AllowFlyerCarryPvE), which lets flying tames pick up wild creatures on a PvE server. That is about carrying creatures, not entering caves. ARK ini settings explained: GameUserSettings.ini, Game.ini covers it.
Common problems
- Flyers still cannot enter: check the spelling in Additional Arguments, that you pressed Save, and that you restarted. A change to the field only applies after a restart.
- The option is in the field but nothing happens on one map: test on another map, or ask the map author if it is a mod map.
If none of these match, open the Console tab, switch to its Errors tab and copy the exact lines into your support ticket.
