Change Crafting Speed on Your Rust Server

Set a crafting speed multiplier on Rust with the Crafting Controller plugin, with its commands and permissions, plus the game's craft.instant.

Updated 4 min read

Crafting in Rust takes a set time per item, and the crafting settings the game lists include no speed multiplier. The easy way to get one is a plugin. This guide uses Crafting Controller from uMod, then covers the one crafting setting the game itself lists. Checked against Crafting Controller 3.3.7 (released August 2026) on uMod and Rust server build 2635, October 2026.

What the game itself offers

Run find craft in the Console tab and the game lists its crafting settings. The only one that changes how long crafting takes is craft.instant, default False. The game describes it as "When enabled, all crafting completes instantly with no time delay; useful for testing crafting recipes or quickly equipping items in development". It is all or nothing, with no way to say "twice as fast", and the game flags it as a development setting.

For a multiplier, install a plugin.

Install Crafting Controller

Crafting Controller needs Oxide or Carbon. If the Plugins tab says Your server runs plain Rust, start with How to install Oxide/uMod plugins on your Rust server.

  1. Open Plugins, stay on Store, search for Crafting Controller and press Install.
  2. On Oxide, a newly installed plugin stays unloaded until the server restarts: restart, or type oxide.load CraftingController in the Console to load it now. On Carbon it loads by itself, and c.load CraftingController or c.reload CraftingController do it by hand. On first load it fills CraftingController.json in the config folder (oxide/config on Oxide, carbon/configs on Carbon) with an entry for each item that has a blueprint.

Set the speed in the config

  1. In Plugins, switch to Installed and press Config on Crafting Controller.
  2. Find Default crafting rate multiplier 0 = Instant, 1 = Default, 2 = 2x speed. It is 1 by default. Set 2 for double speed, 0.5 for half speed, or 0 for instant.
  3. Press Save, then Reload plugin.
Warning

Version 3.3.6 changed this setting from a percentage to a multiplier. If you carry an older config over, a value like 50 now means 50 times faster. The plugin prints a warning in the Console when the number is above 10 and suggests a value to use instead.

Change it from commands

Admins with the right permission can change settings in game from chat. Grant a permission from the Console first, replacing the number with a SteamID64. This is the Oxide command:

oxide.grant user 76561198123456789 craftingcontroller.craftingrate

On Carbon, oxide.grant prints nothing and does nothing. Use c.grant with the same arguments:

c.grant user 76561198123456789 craftingcontroller.craftingrate
Chat commandPermissionWhat it does
/craftrate <number>craftingcontroller.craftingrateSets the multiplier. With no number it shows the current one
/crafttime <item shortname> <seconds>craftingcontroller.itemrateSets one item's craft time. Use default to undo it
/blockitem <item shortname> and /unblockitem <item shortname>craftingcontroller.blockitemsStops or allows crafting an item
/benchlvl <item shortname> <0-3>craftingcontroller.setbenchlvlSets the workbench level an item needs

By default Save commands to config (save config changes via command to the configuration) is true, so changes made by command stay after a restart.

Different speeds for different players

The config holds Crafting rate bonus mulitplier (apply oxide perms for additional mulitpliers, which ships with two tiers: vip1 at 1.5 and vip2 at 2. Each becomes a permission, craftingcontroller.vip1 and craftingcontroller.vip2, that you grant to a player or group. Players with one craft at that multiplier. A third permission, craftingcontroller.instantbulkcraft, gives a player instant bulk crafting.

Common problems

  1. Nothing changed. Check the Console for a compile error, then press Reload plugin after saving.
  2. "You don't have permission to use this command." You haven't been granted the permission above.
  3. "You need to enable advanced crafting options in your config to use this." The item you named has no entry in the Advanced Crafting Options list. Check the shortname against that list in the config.
  4. Gather rates, not crafting. Faster crafting does not change how much players collect. See How to increase gather rates on your Rust server.
