How much RAM does a Palworld server need?
Palworld needs at least 8 GB and Pocketpair recommends 16 GB. See which plan fits 8, 16 or 24 players, the signs you need more, and how to upgrade.
A Palworld dedicated server needs at least 8 GB of RAM, and Pocketpair recommends 16 GB. Our plans are sized by group: 8 GB for up to 8 players, 12 GB for up to 16 and 16 GB for up to 24, and memory use grows as your bases fill with Pals and buildings. Getting started with Palworld covers joining and setup, and the Palworld plans page has current plans and prices.
How much RAM does a Palworld server need?
Pocketpair calls 8 GB the minimum a dedicated server can boot on, so we don't sell anything smaller. Pick the plan by how many people play and how long the world has been running:
If you are between two sizes, or you plan to build big, take the larger one. A world that runs smoothly in week one can lag later.
How many players can a 16 GB Palworld server hold?
Pal Paradise, the 16 GB plan, is sized for up to 24 players on one big world. Palworld itself caps a dedicated server at 32 players, and the Max Players setting in the Startup tab is yours to set. We never charge per player, so choose a cap that suits your plan rather than the other way round.
If it is only ever three or four friends playing together, you may not need a server at all: an invite code (co-op) tops out at 4 players and only runs while the host is playing. A dedicated server is for groups who play at different times or want more than four.
What makes a Palworld server use more memory over time?
Memory use grows as bases fill with Pals and buildings, so the same world needs more the longer it has been played. Two other things add load:
- Wild Pals and items left on the ground cost the server work on every tick. Lowering Pal spawn amount and Ground item cap in World Settings eases that.
What are the signs your Palworld server needs more RAM?
- The RAM Usage card sits near the top. Open the Console tab and read the RAM Usage card. It turns amber at 70% of your plan's allowance and red at 90%, and a reading near the top together with stutters or crashes is the sign to upgrade.
- A world that was smooth now lags as bases and Pal counts have grown.
- Lag that a restart clears and then creeps back over the next few days.
Try the cheap fixes first. In World Settings, lower Pal spawn amount and Ground item cap, select Save settings, then restart. Short hitches at a steady beat are autosaves, which a low Autosave Interval (seconds) in Startup makes more frequent. If only one player lags, compare their ping with what to expect from each city before upgrading. Why is my server lagging? walks through the graphs step by step.
A nightly restart keeps memory from building up. In Schedules, the Nightly restart with warnings card restarts the server daily at a time you choose, after a 5-minute in-game warning.
How to allocate more RAM to your Palworld server
- Press Create backup on the Backups tab, so you have a restore point.
- Open Billing (/dashboard/billing). The Plan and game card in the server's Settings tab opens the same window.
- On the server's subscription, choose Actions, then Change plan.
- Pick the bigger plan.
- Select Continue. The Review step shows today's charge, prorated for the days left in the billing period. Enter your account password and select Switch to followed by the plan's name.
- Select Restart now, or restart later. The new RAM takes effect when the server starts.
A plan change only resizes the server, so your world, files and settings stay as they are. Switching game is different: it reinstalls the server and wipes its world.
Frequently asked questions
Is 8 GB enough for a Palworld server?
For a small group, yes. 8 GB is the least a dedicated server can boot on, and our 8 GB plan is sized for up to 8 players. Move up as the world and the group grow.
Does more RAM fix Palworld lag?
Only when memory is short. If the RAM Usage card has room to spare, the cause is more likely CPU load from Pals and ground items, autosaves or one player's connection.
